Feature Stories: Child Sexual Abuse

Members of a task team created to fight the commercial sexual exploitation of children raid an apartment suspected of housing under-age sex workers. Rocks, also known as crack cocaine were found hidden in the frame of a TV stand and a Nigerian man was arrested for statutory rape* of a 14 year old sex worker who had been rescued off the streets a few months earlier and put into rehab. The young girl had been working the streets for 3 years and was diagnosed with advanced stages of syphilis. She was later admitted into a psychiatric hospital and then ran away and was seen on the streets again. Durban, January 2005.
